The RPA Neurosciences ICU (NSICU) is a 10-bed unit dedicated to the care of Neurosurgical and Neurology patients requiring intensive neuro-specific monitoring and management.
Dedicated nursing, surgical, medical and allied health staff provide multidisciplinary care to people admitted to the NSICU. Over fifty Registered Nurses are employed in the NSICU. Intensive Care Specialists, registrars and resident medical officers work in collaboration with the neurosurgical and neurology specialists and their teams.
The unit provides a full range of neurocritical care services for the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system, as well as trauma neurosurgery. Reasons for admission to NSICU include:
- Intracerebral haemorrhage
- Subarachnoid haemorrhage
- Major neurological trauma
- Cranial tumour resection
- Cerebro-vascular surgery and neurointerventional radiology
- Spinal surgery
