We take infection control seriously in the RPA ICS as are patients are very ill and as a result can pick up infections easily.
It is important that all staff and visitors follow our infection control rules. For visitors, the nursing staff can advise what you need to do.
On arrival to the ICU you will find a bottle of hand rub next to the door. This is alcohol-based and will evaporate. Please use this each time you come into the ICU and when you leave.
We ask that if you are unwell to please not visit the ICU. If you have symptoms of a runny nose, cough, sore throat or fevers, this time frame is at least seven days.
If you think you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please do not visit the ICU for 7 days after you were exposed. This helps protect patients and staff against getting infected
If your loved one is being nursed in isolation, the staff will instruct you on what you must do
Other ways to control infection:
- Do not sit on the beds;
- Do not handle any equipment in the bed space;
- Do not bring flowers, plants or balloons into the unit;
- Do not bring any food or drink into the bedside area unless discussed with the ICU team prior.
