Dr Richard Totaro is and Intensive Care Specialist and is the Director of the Intensive Care Service at RPAH, the ECMO lead for the RPA ICS, a VMO at Strathfield Private Hospital and was the Director of the ICU at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse until 2022.
Dr Totaro graduated from UNSW and did Intensive Care training at Royal North Shore Hospital, The Princess Alexandra Children’s Hospital, Camperdown and an Intensive Care Fellowship at Rush Presbyterian-St Lukes Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
He attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1994 and joined the Joint Faculty od Intensive Care Medicine in 2002.
He is a member the General Clinical RCA Review Committee of the NSW CEC, past member of the Drugs and Therapeutics committee at RPAH and is Chair of the Rights of Private Practice committee at RPAH.
Dr Totaro has an interest in extracorporeal respiratory and cardiac support and has published on a range of topics including ECMO-CPR, H1N1 and SARS-CoV-2 pandemics, and ECMO training.
